INTRODUCTION
If you are in the mood for entertaining reading, then you can flip through this book
and read the personal stories from folks just like you, who have found a way to
heal their pet. If this is as far as you get, you will still receive valuable information.
For those who truly want to improve the well being of their four-legged or winged
family members, we have details on food, nutrition, healing supplements and
manufacturers of healthy products that improve the immune system. This book is
an updated version of Super Nutrition for Animals and our first book, Are You
Poisoning Your Pets?
Veterinarians report that many of today's pets suffer from allergies, skin problems,
hypertension, heart disease, cancer, liver and kidney failure, to name a few.
These conditions have been exaggerated by the "tainted" foods we feed our pets,
and the lack of vitamins, enzymes, minerals and other nutrients. There are
approximately eighty million pet-owners in the United States. These animal lovers
spend twenty-seven billion dollars on their pets and of that, eleven billion is on
food. Advertising in the pet industry is the primary way you hear about their
products. Do manufacturers tell you what they put in their cans or boxes? Is it a
dead dog or cat? That may sound harsh, but for some manufacturers, it's true.
"4D" is a FDA classification denoting a dead, dying, diseased and disabled meat
source. Do they tell you what effect the preservatives and additives may have on
your pets health? Of course not! All you see is happy healthy animals lapping up
their "yummy" food.
Manufacturers of natural pet foods have lots more conscience. They have
provided us with much of their research into what really should be in pet foods and
what shouldn't. We have been made aware of the hazards of toxic additives and
the need for specific nutrients. Unfortunately, even the most trustworthy natural pet
food manufacturer must cook or process foods. Therefore, to restore the natural
digestibility of the food, supplemental enzymes must be added to the meal. This is
one of the focal points covered within the text. There are numerous good books
on natural treatments for healing sick pets, and most mention diets, but we go one
step further. Information is given on three important features: minerals, enzymes,
and balancing nutrients.
To make our point, we have included numerous personal stories from pet owners
about the healing power of diets, supplements, natural food and alternative
treatments for illness. They are included not only to entertain you, but to help you
make a more educated decision about the future health of your pet. Each story
has key words underlined, depicting the animal species and the health problem
that is the focus of the tale. This book is meant to be a starting point for you. Other
sources are recommended within the text, to round out your education on specific
topics. A Resource Directory is provided as the last chapter. It's purpose is to
educate you about products and companies that are dedicated to keeping your
pet alive and healthy, naturally. Should your animal be poisoned (from food or
toxic substances) you can receive immediate help by calling the National Animal
Poison Control Center (888) ANI-HELP (charge for service).
Our personal stories may not be as life threatening as those of the pet owners
who sent us letters, but they illustrate our commitment to natural healing and
preventive medicine.
