Overcoming Senior Moments shares ways to improve memory function for all age groups. It also defines diseases such as Alzheimer's.
Memory Loss—it can happen to all of us!
One of the big fears of the aging population is memory loss and the fear of dementia. Most of us have had the experience of misplacing
our keys or worse yet, locking them in the car. It really doesn’t matter whether your age is six or sixty, we all have memory lapses from
time to time. We used to think that when we reached retirement age, we were expected to repeat ourselves and to forget to turn off the
stove. Unfortunately, this behavior is showing up at earlier ages; from simply forgetting where you put something to looking at a familiar
friend and not remembering their name.
In Overcoming Senior Moments, Expanded edition we learn how to maintain brain health and guard against dementia through pleasantly
illustrated text that simplifies how the brain works and what it needs to stay in tip top shape. Drinking mineralized water, eating the good
fats, and doing exercises (slow mid-line crossing movements that are advocated by the Handle Institute® and Educational Kinesiology
Foundation and facilitate neural activity) are a few of the techniques offered. Author Frances Meiser says, “With a healthy diet,
avoidance of environmental and dietary toxins and a wee bit of exercise, we can keep remembering who we are, what we want and
where we put our keys, well into our ninety’s and beyond.”
In the Expanded Edition the authors have gone further in identifying specific supplements that support brain function. Adding to the list
which includes herbs, vitamins, minerals, flower remedies and hormone balancing are three new brain boosters: Polysaccharides and
polypeptides (help nerve cells produce normal proteins that assist in rejuvenation of neural connections); Ashitaba (stimulates the
production of NGF, nerve growth factor); and Zeolite (has an affinity for trapping heavy metals and taking them out of the body, and
exhibits neuro-psychiatric effects with successful treatment of illnesses including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s).
According to Dr. Michael Gazsi, ND, co-author of A Doctor in Your Suitcase, “This book gives accurate information on nutrients and
supplements needed for preventing illnesses of the brain. Minerals and essential fatty acids are the building blocks of brain health.” Dr.
Ogi Ressell, author of Kid-First: Health with No Interference says, “Health is something that we create from the inside of our body. The
techniques described in this book suggest pathways that can create a healthy brain, and keep our memory sharp.”
Introduction Frances Meiser
The understanding that I can be master of my thoughts came to me late in life. It was my experience with paice disorder and things that
triggered my attacks that first alerted me to this simple, yet complex fact. Knowing now that when my brain is stressed due to lack of
movement, lack of water, poor nutrition or if I’m sleep deprived, it was cause me to have distorted thoughts, an inappropriate feeling or
an inaccurate perception. The information I have researched in this book has helped me make better choices and live a less stressed,
more relaxed and joy filled life. I now realize that for me, a high carbohydrate, caffeine fed diet will feed feelings of my being driven rather
than being the driver.
A later diagnosis of AD/HD (attention priority differences) led me seek reading materials, and attend conferences and seminars in
hopes that I would find causes for this disorder. It was the culmination of this inquiry and my training and treatment through the HANDLE
Institute that helped me see that I could take charge of my neural circuitry. It is my belief that we can now teach children how their brain
works, and how to be responsible for care of their brain on a daily basis.

When Frances and I first wrote the children’s book, The Brain Train, I was already advising people to drink more water and add minerals
to their diet. Since that time, I noticed a big change in my mother. As a youthful Senior Citizen, although she was extremely active, her
thought patterns had begun to deteriorate and I noticed repetitive sentences and lots of forgetfulness. We all may do this from time to
time and not notice, but when you see this kind of change in a parent, you get worried. Alzheimer’s is a highly publicized illness and
every family fears the implications should one of their members lose their ability to think.
I started my mom on crystalloid electrolytes, and also gave her ground flaxseed on a daily basis (products in the Resources chapter).
Nothing else changed. Within two months she stopped repeating herself, and had fewer "senior moments." She became so mentally
sharp that many took her for a woman 20 years younger. She had such good recall ability that she could be a successful contestant on
Jeopardy or Millionaire. Seeing results like this in a family member convinced me that many people could benefit from this simple
solution. In Overcoming Senior Moments, Frances and I have given you information on supplements and lifestyle changes that we know
work based on personal experience. We welcome your feedback.
